Our Year 7 & 8 Programme

  • We seek connections and we visit local artisans and industries to inspire our Y7/8 students’ future

Leadership

  • Our Year 7/8's make up our school leadership team, meeting regularly to talk about the direction of our school

  • Make decisions about school events

  • Develop as leaders through school leadership opportunities, eg hosting BBQ, running assemblies, helping the junior students, caring for school animals, PE monitors, librarians, peer mediators

  • Outdoor Activities, Community Service, Passion Projects

EOTC - Education outside the classroom

  • Annual camp, exploring our local area and challenging activities

  • Noho marae (stay over) at Te Hora Marae

  • Regular walks to the river as part of our Enviro Kaitiaki role

  • Exploring our local area, eg bike rides, nature walks, visiting local places

  • Termly visits to local industries, exploring careers and future opportunities for students

Technology Education

We are excited to offer our own on-site Technology Programme, utilising local experts and contexts.

Our current Technology programme involves lots of hands-on, practical opportunities, including woodwork, food technology, soft materials technology and modules.

Sporting and cultural opportunities

  • Regular sporting exchanges with Wakefield Yr 7/8's

  • School wide sports and games focus

  • Joining tournaments and events at a regional level, eg Cross Country, Summer and Winter Tournaments

  • School production

  • Kapa Haka

  • Speech Competition

Modules

  • We regularly connect with Wakefield Year 7-8s: socially, for sport exchanges, teams, tournaments and for modules.

    Students choose high interest activities including: golf, leather-work, construction, sewing extension, cooking extension, languages, sport extension and more.
