Dear Appleby School Community

We wanted to provide you with an update on the process of appointing a new Principal for Appleby School.

Thank you to everyone that participated in the survey. We received feedback from 24% of school families, which might sound low, but is significantly more feedback than we’ve received in any previous school survey.

There were many common themes across the responses and these will be considered in our selection of a new Principal.

We engaged the services of School Trustees Association Endorsed Consultant, John Armstrong, who met individually with our teaching staff to get their feedback on the qualities that they desire in a new principal.

John has also met with Year 5/6 students to get their feedback.

Following advertising in the NZ Education Gazette, we received 13 applications from around New Zealand. The full Board then short-listed these candidates to six and full reference checks were conducted for these six applicantsToday, the full Board have assessed the results of reference checking, alongside the feedback from the community, staff and students and have selected the top three candidates for interviewing.

Raewyn Watson will be joining the full Board on the interview panel.

To date it has been a really robust process and we are confident that we will be able to appoint a talented leader who can build on the schools strong foundations and guide us through the next stage of our development.

Ngā mihi nui

Chairman, School Board of Trustees
