Over the next couple of weeks the whole school will be heading to the ASB Pool in Richmond for ten swimming lessons. The swimmers will be transported by bus. Waimeaha, Moutere and Whakatu will leave school just after 9am for a 9:30am start at the pool. The other 3 rooms will leave at approximately 10:30am for a 11:00am start at the pool. The second group will be back at school at about 12:45. Please ensure the children have their swimming gear every day for the next two weeks. Play and lunchtimes will be altered slightly to fit the groups. At the pool they are split into ability based groups of about 10 and work with the Swim Magic instructors. The children usually make great progress working in such small groups and in ideal conditions. On Friday 17th November, the senior students will have their swimming sports at 11:00am. On the last day, Friday 24th November, we will have an open day from 9:30am for parents to come along to the sessions to see how the Year 1-4 children are going. Times:
Waimeha/Moutere- swimming 9:30-10:30 Kahurangi/Whakatu- swimming at 10:30-11:30am
The true cost of the swimming programme is over $60 per child. The school uses our KiwiSport funding, and some of the money raised through the fair to subsidise the bill. As such a cost of $30 per child was included on the Term 4 activity levy. Note there may be some movement of students within groups at the start of the program as instructors look to get placements correct.
