Next Thursday 30th June we hope as many of our school community as possible can join us and our local Ngati Kuia iwi for our Dawn Ceremony. It will mean getting organized a little earlier in the morning but promises to be a unique opportunity! All students, families, ex students and other members of the Appleby community are invited and encouraged to attend.
The Appleby School site is of particular significance to the Ngati Kuia and recently the land was gifted back to the iwi as part of the settlement process. On Thursday we will officially recognize this partnership by unveiling a pakohe stone that has been specially prepared and placed on site.
We will gather at 7:30am in the amphitheatre area near the pool and when ready, will walk over to the stone and hold a short ceremony in Te Reo and English to celebrate the occasion and unveil the pakohe. After this we will go to the school hall to have some kai and breakfast will be followed by the students singing some waiata, performing kapa haka and sharing what they have learned. We expect to be finished around 9:30am.
