Board information evening - great turn out

The Board were thrilled with the turnout to the BOT information evening held last Tuesday evening. With more than ten people attending and expressing an interest in becoming a BOT member, it was great to see such a diverse range of parents. Diversity of thought is key around any board table and it’s encouraging to know that the future governance of the school will be in such capable hands.

The information evening covered a range of topics from preparing the school charter, property management, financial reporting, responsibilities of health & safety, people & community engagement, Waimea kāhui ako and the fundamentals of governance.

For anyone that couldn’t make the evening but is interested in understanding more information, please feel free to contact a BOT member for more information.

Update on Principal recruitment process

Dear Appleby School Community

We wanted to provide you with an update on the process of appointing a new Principal for Appleby School.

Thank you to everyone that participated in the survey. We received feedback from 24% of school families, which might sound low, but is significantly more feedback than we’ve received in any previous school survey.

Letter from Board to school whanau

20 August 2018

Dear Appleby School Whanau

It is with some sadness that we inform you Graham Avery will be leaving Appleby School to take up a position with the Education Review Office and will depart at the end of Term 3.

As Principal, Graham has led Appleby School for 10 years and it is hard to contemplate Appleby School without him. He has enabled a learning environment in which our children have adopted the GROWTH values and found their own strengths, to achieve their best and to further their enjoyment of learning. Graham has guided Appleby School to continuously deliver impressive results not only academically but in sport, culture and leadership.

But with change comes opportunity.

One thing Appleby School prides itself on is its close relationship with the community. We surpass many schools in the community support stakes!
And recent events at the school showcase this bond. Both the annual fair and the weekend’s working bee are indications of the can-do attitude of our school children and their whanau.

In fear of sounding like a broken record, the Board would like to again thank the school community for its generous support – this time with our working bee.
